Our Mahi

We seek to build hope and joy for individuals experiencing mental ill health, and for their wider whānau. Our mahi creates meaningful connections that touch hearts and change lives.

With your help, we can build a compassionate, supportive and diverse community network that facilitates inclusion and belonging for people affected by mental distress.

Buddy Programme

We aim to improve mental wellbeing by reducing social isolation and loneliness. We pair people affected by a mental illness (our buddies) with a volunteer who cares and is there to support social connection.

This might be going to a local café, a walk along the beach, the gym, an art or writing class – just out and about in the community as friends!

We work with Waiheke health workers who refer people to us when needed. All our services are free of charge for Waiheke whānau needing support.

Whānau Support

Whānau Support is for family and friends caring for a loved one with mental health problems. Our group offers peer support to whānau through shared experiences and resources.

If you love or care for someone who is experiencing mental unwellness, please come along for support in a safe, facilitated space.

Wellbeing Garden

Our Wellbeing Garden is a space devoted to growing herbs and plants specific to mental wellbeing. It’s a place to spend time in the garden, growing, tending and connecting.

We invite the community to the Wellbeing Gardens on Thursday mornings, from 10am to 1pm. Please come along to have a look, meet a few people and maybe get your hands dirty! Have a cup of tea with us and share your expertise, your enthusiasm, your desire to learn.

New gardeners are welcome.

Reach Out Friends

Reach Out Waiheke would love your support in connecting our community. Reach Out Friends are needed in many ways from supporting people directly with calling or emailing, dog walking, or meeting up, helping in our Wellness Garden, or with admin, IT or fundraising.

Whatever your specialty or skill, it will be needed! Help can be once off, or regularly with one hour per month, or every other week. However suits you best.

We can’t wait to meet you!
